Less drag
A clean, low-friction underwater surface helps reduce resistance through the water.

LESS RESISTANCE.
MORE FREEDOM.
Meet the silicone coating that makes it harder for fouling to hold on. Explore the benefits, choose your colour and build the right Silic One system for the hull, propeller and seasons ahead.
Hempel Silic One is a biocide-free silicone coating whose ultra-slick surface stops fouling from getting a grip. Less drag means more speed and less fuel burned, so you get more from every trip. Upkeep is easy: rinse, inspect and recharge with Hempel Infinity each season for up to two years of protection without repainting. Antifouling a boat can be a drag, not with Silic One.

A clean, low-friction underwater surface helps reduce resistance through the water.
Lower hull friction can help reduce fuel use. The result depends on the boat, coating condition, operating pattern and comparison baseline.
Silic One’s finish is biocide-free and copper-free. Fouling control comes from the silicone and hydrogel surface.
Plan suitable cleaning, inspect the coating and choose the right maintenance treatment as the seasons change.
Try Hempel’s colour visualisation, then choose the matching Marathon product and pack size.
Colours on screen are illustrative and may differ from the applied finish. Confirm the shade, pack size and product code before ordering. Hempel’s original boat artwork is used for the visualisation; it does not represent a boat-specific coating specification.
Start with the surface already on the boat. Select the relevant route below to see the products to discuss, then check the current Hempel specification for that substrate and coating condition.
A conversion route can avoid stripping suitable, firmly adhering antifouling. Remove loose material, prepare the surface and use the specified conversion primer.
Conversion Primer / Silic Seal → Silic One Tiecoat → two Silic One finish coats
Read Hempel’s route guidance ↗Use the appropriate epoxy primer specification. An existing epoxy base and a new bare substrate need different preparation and film-build checks.
Specified Light Primer system → Silic One Tiecoat → two Silic One finish coats
Read Hempel’s route guidance ↗Remove old antifouling and prepare the metal correctly. The propeller route has its own Light Primer preparation and coat sequence.
Specified Light Primer coats → Silic One Tiecoat → Silic One propeller finish
Read Hempel’s route guidance ↗Inspect and clean first. Sound coating may suit an Infinity recharge; damaged areas need repair and a worn finish may need recoating.
Clean & inspect → repair as needed → specified recharge or recoat
Read Hempel’s route guidance ↗Marathon lists the 45441 conversion product as Silic Seal; current Hempel guidance calls it Conversion Primer. Match the supplied product code to the current specification. An unsound coating is not a suitable conversion base. For new gelcoat, Hempel specifies an epoxy barrier system rather than a universal single primer coat.
Choose the finish and its supporting products. Primer and maintenance requirements depend on the route above.

Shop InfinityAdd the cleaner and tools specified for the chosen system. Silic One and Tiecoat must not be thinned.
Hempel’s propeller route starts by removing old antifouling, cleaning and creating the specified surface profile. Apply the primer promptly after preparation to limit oxidation.
Choose the correct primer package, not just the finish kit. Marathon’s base kit listing contains Tiecoat and Silic One; the primer-inclusive option is listed separately.

Enter the total underwater area to coat. The estimate uses Hempel’s theoretical spreading rate of 10 m² per litre per coat.
The 10% allowance is an adjustable example for practical losses, not a prescribed Hempel allowance. Results update as you change the figures.
Alternative single-size pack options, not a combined order. Pack counts round up to cover the estimate; no price or availability comparison is made.
Illustrative planning guide only. Use the measured total area, specified film thickness and current Hempel instructions. Actual consumption depends on surface condition, application method and losses. This calculates Silic One hull finish only; primer, Tiecoat, propeller work and repairs must be assessed separately.
Silic One and Tiecoat are brush/roller products with no thinning. The current sheets specify a 60-minute pot life at 20°C and a surface temperature above 10°C during application and curing.
| Stage | Current guidance at 20°C |
|---|---|
| Primer to Silic One Tiecoat | 2–4 hours for the specified Light Primer / Conversion Primer stage. |
| Tiecoat to Silic One | 8–48 hours. |
| Silic One to another Silic One coat | Minimum 16 hours. |
| Immersion after final Silic One coat | Minimum 24 hours; maximum one month. |
These intervals are not interchangeable with touch-dry or full-cure times. Different temperatures change the schedule. If a window is missed, follow Hempel’s remedial instructions.

Infinity recharges the performance of an existing Silic One coating in good condition for a further season, without repainting.
Clean and rinse the surface, let it dry, then apply as instructed. Hempel’s recharge process allows at least 24 hours before rinsing off with fresh water.
Faster movement can assist fouling release. Slower boats and sailing yachts may need suitable cleaning more often. Use a dense sponge or cloth and fresh water; avoid hard brushes and abrasive tools that could damage the surface.
Check the coating condition. Rebuild damaged system layers as required. Infinity is for existing sound coating; it cannot replace missing primer, tiecoat or finish.
Hempel offers an Infinity recharge for a further season or a Silic One recoat maintenance route. Service intervals depend on condition, use, fouling pressure and time out of the water.
It is a silicone fouling-release system. It creates a low-friction surface that makes organisms less able to attach firmly, rather than relying on a biocidal finish.
Silic One can support fuel savings by reducing hull friction. The result depends on the vessel, fouling, coating condition and operating pattern. Compare like-for-like conditions on the same boat rather than assuming a fixed saving for every installation.
Hempel lists aluminium among the suitable substrates for the specified system. Confirm the full primer and preparation route for the particular hull or propeller. A suitable finish does not remove the need for correct metal preparation.
No. The conversion route uses a suitable existing coating in good condition, the specified conversion primer, Silic One Tiecoat and the finish. Loose or poorly adhering coating needs remedial preparation.
Yes, the specified initial Silic One system uses Silic One Tiecoat between the compatible primer and finish. It has a different job from the epoxy primer and is not interchangeable with it.
Marathon’s base kit description lists 375ml Silic One Tiecoat and 375ml Silic One. Separate options are listed with and without a primer package. Check the exact option and its contents before ordering.
No. Hempel positions Silic One with a two-year hull service life, alongside seasonal maintenance options. Inspection and appropriate cleaning still matter, and harsher conditions or extended time out of the water can change maintenance needs.
Hempel says Silic One must be removed before switching back to traditional antifouling. Ask for the correct removal and re-priming process rather than coating directly over silicone.
